Description

This project is concerned with simulating time-dynamic flows in networks and the optimization of such flows, either in a multi-objective setting (i.e., simultaneously w.r.t. several criteria), or w.r.t. flow- or time-dependent cost functions.

One important application area of the multi-objective optimization is the evacuation of buildings, where average and maximum leaving time may be of particular concern.
So far we have
- developed the HyDEFS software for tracking pedestrian movement,
- investigated the achievable (average and maximum) leaving times under varying assumptions of the building's capacities and the routing decisions The pictures show the average (left) and maximum (right) leaving times for a geometry with three doors, depending on the percentages (PAR01 and PAR02) of people taking different ways at two junctions. In this simple scenario both times can be minimized synchronously.

To optimize the total cost of a flow over a time interval we are currently considering a port-Hamiltonian system-based formulation.
