Welcome
to the research group of Optimization and Approximation of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Wuppertal!
Our research comprises mathematical optimization and approximation. In optimization we especially deal with combinatorial optimization, facility location and multicriteria optimization problems. Therefore we are interested in theory as well as in practical application. Some team members work within projects funded by the German Research Foundation and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
In approximation theory questions concerning concrete approximation methods are studied, especially in the context of operators of Durrmeyer-type.
We regularly offer basic courses in linear programming, discrete optimization and linear approximation theory. Moreover there are specialized courses e.g. in location theory and multicriteria optimization or actual topics in approximation theory. Furthermore we also participate in the education of engineers and business economists by offering basic lectures in mathematics. You find information about our teaching in German on this web site.
